A New Light

Most often we come across situations in our life when we are challenged to do exactly the opposite of what our hearts wants. We are compelled to do what the mind tells us instead of following our hearts. Giving up somethings or someone or getting over habits we know that does no good might be the most difficult thing. Sometimes the past traps us through unexamined clutter spilling from every tabletop and corner, elbowing out the new and the possible. It's an axiom of psychology that we are some recombination of all of our yesterdays. To move forward wisely, we are therefore often urged to look back. But there's a point where appreciation and analysis of the past become gum on your psychological shoe. It sticks you in place, impedes forward motion, and, like gum, it doesn't just disappear on its own. You need to do some scraping.
Letting go means something has to open in your head and in your heart, but that shift, that easing, comes up against our own invisible, often implacable resistance. A great deal of that resistance comes from nothing more pedestrian than the great human reluctance to change. Even change for the better is still change, often initially dreaded and avoided. We are creatures of habit and of inertia. But i have realized that our Creator understands how frail and weak we are. Human pride is the cause of feeble attempts to hide weakness from Him. But God yearns to be our help, our shield of strength when times are rough. Humble petitions are always heard by our intercessor. In fact, the answers to our prayers are often found within the blessing of a new day. A fresh start, a rested body and spirit, a new beginning; these all clear our heads and encourage Christ-like thinking. With every 60 seconds and 60 minutes, we have a new start. A fresh launch begins at the 24 hour mark. There is a new beginning at the end of every week, month, and year. This is not a coincidence. God is purposeful in all He does and His designs are perfect. I’m sure He set the planets in their orbits and designed the seasons for more than just one reason.
I can't tell you how many times God has proven me wrong. But I can tell you it's the best way to be wrong- to think you know your worth and see him show you that it's more, to think a thing is as good as it gets and watch him hand you something better. To have a set of expectations that he shatters in favor of a set of surprises. This is how he pursues me lately. Maybe it's how he pursues you, too.
